Product Description
The Bosuns Whistle was once the only method other than the human voice of passing orders to men on board ship and could be heard over the sounds of sea and battles. The Bosun was the officer in charge of rigging, sails and sailing equipment. He therefore needed to issue orders more often than other officers and so the whistle was named after him. There are different tunes for different orders. The Bosun generally wore the whistle around his neck, like a necklace, for easy access. This is a beautiful nautical bosun call or boatswains whistle. Some are still used by the different Navy's as well as Scouts. This attractive Bosun Whistle Set comes with a nautical rose wood box for display and storage, brass Bosun Whistle that sounds out loud and clear and instructions on how to use the whistle. It was also known as a Boatswain Whistle.
The whistle measures about 4.75" on a 16" chain (32" if you measure end to end). The box measures 6" x 1 3/4" x 1 3/4.
