In a few short years Blackbeard, the Pirate, gained a notorious reputation as he attacked merchant ships in the Caribbean and along the Atlantic Coast. Blackbeard would plunder all of the jewels, coins, clothing, food, liquor, weapons, dinnerware, tools and anything of value he could sell or items that struck his fancy. At one point, near Charleston, Blackbeard even stole hats and clothing, sending his captives off in their underwear.
