Victorian Tooth Extractor

Product Description

Really nice and rather scarce antique, Victorian tooth remover or puller, also known as a tooth key. The puller has a nice wood handle and a steel arm that would be used to grab a hold of the tooth so you could yank it out. Kind of disturbing. Just like today, tooth decay was an unpleasant part of life, but for the most of 1800s and early 1900s, extraction was the only treatment available.  Most people who found themselves with toothache ended up in the hands of their local barber or blacksmith, who doubled as a surgeon, who would have used a puller like this.  To use the instrument was placed into the mouths of their patients, then secure the tooth to be removed, and then rotate the key to extract.  4.5"x3.5"x1"
