Product Description

Around the 16th century it was common for Memento Mori pieces to be made following a loved ones death. Those in mourning would wear jewelry symbolizing death and a reminder of their own mortality. ‘Memento Mori’ translates from Latin as ‘Remember you must die’. A skull was typically used to represent death from the 1500s onwards. It gradually replaced the common older image of a skeleton leading a living person off to their death.  This 19th Century ring is made of silver and depicts a skull, cross, heart, and a symbol that looks to be an anchor, it was common for Memento Mori jewelry to incorporate meaningful symbols that represented the deceased.
