March 1st - March 31st is Ancient Pirate Month

Female pirates weren't just ordinary buccaneers; they served as leaders, tacticians, and formidable fighters. Earning respect not solely based on their gender, these women commanded admiration for their skills, courage, and unwavering determination. Amidst the lawlessness and peril of the Golden Age of Piracy, these women found a unique era of freedom and opportunity.

Documented instances of female pirates during this period were scarce, reflecting the challenging circumstances they faced. Even when associated with legitimate expeditions, women encountered significant barriers to joining seafaring crews. Restrictions deemed them unfit for physically demanding roles and were considered disruptive to the hierarchical and social order on ships. The prevailing belief, even among pirates who rejected societal norms for profit, held that the mere presence of women would incite mutiny and bring ill fortune to the crew.

Despite these obstacles, women pirates showcased their intelligence, bravery, and valuable contributions. They had to outpace, outsmart, and outbrave their male counterparts, proving themselves adept at cursing, fighting, and even killing with the best of them.
