20th Century Moroccan Koumya Dagger w/Brass & Leather Sheath

Product Description

The Koummya is a distinctive traditional dagger of the Berber and Arab peoples of Morocco. They are categorized as a localized form of the Arabic Jambiya, sharing key features such as contoured handles, curved double-edged blades, and notably upturned scabbard tips. In traditional attire, the Koummya is typically worn prominently on the left side at waist level. It is suspended vertically, with the scabbard tip pointing forward, using a long woolen baldric. This baldric, fastened to the two scabbard rings, crosses the torso diagonally from the right shoulder to support the dagger. There exists a wide variety of Koummya styles and decorations, reflecting different geographic origins and historical periods. This Koummya is an exceptional example of fine craftsmanship in the decoration of the knife and leather sheath.
